About

I’m Cannie, your favorite blogger/internet cousin. It’s Cannie (KAY-nee) by the way, not to be confused with “canny” like Annie. It’s a family name that my mom just so happened to like that my family has deemed to mean “promise.”

I’m sure you’re aware from American history of the perils of Black Americans, who at first weren’t even considered people, and then prevented from reading as the ages progressed. By the time my great grandmother was entering the world in the early 1900s, the census workers came weeks after birth to complete the birth certificates. Most Black people learned by rote instead of reading and my great great grandmother told the census worker that she wanted to name her baby girl after a beloved place in the Bible. I can imagine her in a deep southern NC accent saying, “mah baby girl gonna be named after CannieLand, the promise of God.” The worker wrote down the name as she heard it: C-A-N-N-I-E. The original intention of my great great grandmother was to name her daughter Canaan, — you know, the land of milk and honey. But the way things go…she got a unique name. And I, her namesake, do as well. I’m proud of my name, so bring your A game when you say it!

Ok, so boom! I’m a fun-loving creative with many hobbies, interests, and talents. And I plan to enjoy and use every one to my heart’s content. So, welcome to my world. This corner of the interweb is a place of joy, encouragement, laughter, and non-judgement. I hope that we can become friends and enjoy this space together.

And just like that…you fam now!! Jump into the fun! ♥
